There are 35 multiple choice questions on the permit test. You need to get at least 85% in order to pass. Remember, You are NOT allowed to use the driver’s handbook during your permit test. You are being tested on your ability to recall the rules of the road. Prepare yourself before you go in and you will see that you can do well without the manual.

If you are 19 years old or older, you must hold your learner’s permit for at least 60 days. If you can prove that you have had driver’s education, you may apply for your license immediately
If you are under 19 years old, you will have to hold your permit for at least 9 months. You will have to take driver’s education and get at least 45 hours of behind the wheel training.
When can I take my road test?
During this time period, teens under 19 must complete driver’s education and get at least 45 hours of behind the wheel training. If you’re 19 or older and have proven that you have had driver’s education, you may apply for your license immediately.
